Come and Meet A & K

Hi

I’m Auds

Hi, I’m Audrey, but everyone calls me Aud’s. My journey began at Marie Curie University, where I was inspired by my lecturer, Dr. Justin O’Ryan, so after class, in full Parisian glamour, heels and lipstick included, to pitch my wild idea of joining his research team. Not sure what he made of my fabulousness, and how practical he thought my attire would be in the African Savanna’s, but his response was a life-changing “yes, meet me in South Africa.”
That moment launched a series of incredible adventures that took me far from the streets of Paris. From navigating the complex world of naked mole-rats and the social hierarchies of meerkats to becoming a formidable 4×4 driver and a pioneer in crocodile conservation, I have bounced between South Africa, Botswana, and Zambia, loving every minute of it, now it’s time to share my memories and whatever else is around the corner in my role in Sierra Leone.

Hi

I’m Dr Kev

It’s a bit stereotypical, I know, but my adventures began with a deep love for the escapades of Jacques Cousteau, David Attenborough, and Steve Irwin. I’ll admit that for a while, I drifted a bit, uncertainly, through life. I dipped my toe into graphic design, drove minibuses, then temp work, before finding my rhythm as a chef. I loved the energy of the kitchen, starting as a pot-washer and working my way up to second-chef in Ipswich. But in my mid-20s, a nagging thought hit me: is this it? I wanted to travel, I wanted to do something more. (And no disrespect to Ipswich chefs, by the way!)
So, I quit, and launched myself into a Zoology BSc at Liverpool University. That was it, the turning point. At the end of my degree, I landed a voluntary research position in South Africa in 2000, and the adventures truly began. And that’s where I found my love, Auds, in the Kalahari sands of the Northern Cape in South Africa, surrounded by meerkats. From there, I went on to work with BBC film crews, research expeditions and dedicated myself to conservation and education. I’ve had the incredible privilege of exploring countries like Botswana, Zambia, Tanzania, Uganda, Madagascar and Borneo. Along the way, I’ve woven a network of lifelong friends. There are definitely some stories there, and I can’t wait to share them with you.
